UFC 118 – Couture Post Fight Press Conference

By Ricardo | August 29, 2010

Here’s a snippet from the post fight press conference. Randy Couture talks about how everything went according to plan. It’s funny that he said it’s a “low single”, you hardly see that in MMA but it just looked like a wack shoot.

Oh man I’m just glad things happened the way they did. Toney had no idea what to do once Randy got ahold of his ankle, once he was on his ass it was all over. Even the fact that he gave up the mount so easily, gave up the arm triangle twice… damn. Where’s the fight metric on this shit? Couture made Toney look like a fucking rookie, anybody off the street could have likely done better in that position. The whole time I was tripping out on how straight Toney’s legs were while Couture was in mount. Didn’t try to buck him off, at least plant his feet on the ground to use his hips… damn.

Portal 2 – Faith Plate

By Ricardo | August 27, 2010

Here’s a good demonstration of the puzzle solving skills you can apply on this game. I really liked the first one in how you just had to stop for a minute to think things threw, then when you got a good idea it was time to go and test it out. Brilliant.

UFC 118 – James Toney Calls Joe Rogan and Jay Glazer ‘Clowns’

By Ricardo | August 26, 2010

Hahahaha oh man I can’t get enough of this guy. I still can’t help but face-palm during his interviews but he’s so consistent with it that I’m actually going to miss the guy once he disappears into the world of irrelevance. There’s so much to this video I don’t even know where to begin, it’s like in school where you would take up an entire period to discuss 2 chapters from a Charles Dickens book. Here we have a modern day Shakespear, delivering gold at 7 minutes a pop. “Kick like a girl”. Nice, personally I think it’s manlier to knock the guy on his ass and still be allowed to follow him there to finish him off instead of letting the guy get a 10 count “like a girl”. That’s just me though.

And what’s up with the Randy dolls? Why does this guy always manage to have one with him? I’ve never even seen one in person yet Toney loves to have one close to him at all times.

The New Versus The Former

By Ricardo | August 26, 2010

Okay so here we go… who’s going to win this shit, Penn or Edgar? It kinda sucks that there was an immediate rematch so we’re not going to see a new matchup but on the plus side we get to see what’s up for real. Can Edgar beat Penn again or will BJ show that he can come back and beat Edgar now that he knows what he can do? The problem I have with Edgar’s win is that he played the out-pointing game, which will definitely give you the victory but at the end of the day you didn’t finish the guy and when you fight 10 battles like that how many can you really win after your opponent wises up to your gameplan? If Edgar wins this then I want to see a decisive win, beat the shit out of Penn or submit him. It can go to decision but at least make it a GSP-like dominance where you can show the world that you really are better than him. That might be asking a lot but that’s what a champion should be all about. When you see guys like GSP, Anderson Silva, and Brock, you think of holy shit… how does anyone have a chance against these guys?? That’s the aura that BJ Penn has and the reason why I’ve changed tune over time and started to really like the guy. there’s a bunch of reasons why I didn’t like the guy but once I got past it and saw how he fucked up Sherk, Sanchez, and Florian, I had to admit that’s the type of shit I want to see. Fools getting murked, either beat the champion or get ready to be fucked up. The reason I didn’t mention the LHW champ is because that division is always changing face so who knows how that’ll end up. So… may the best man win and I’m super pumped for this war.

MMA Live With Randy Couture

By Ricardo | August 26, 2010

This is a really good interview where they actually ask Randy questions not typically asked about his upcoming bout with Toney. I’ve noticed that Couture has pre-scripted responses to most of these questions, like when he says that he feels that the sport will keep growing whether he wins or loses this match so this fight doesn’t really impact the future of MMA. So it’s refreshing to finally hear him give insights on the challenges Toney will have with this being his first professional MMA fight:

Kimbo Moves to Boxing

By Ricardo | August 26, 2010

Kimbo the BoxerOkay it’s finally happened, Kimbo Slice has decided to make the move to the boxing world. Is this because he’s no longer a desireable addition to any top MMA league? According to ESPN.com:

“I feel like a baby all over again,” said the 36-year-old Florida resident. “I’m thinking about this at night. I’m gonna be a problem in the heavyweight division. I’m going to be coming in with a bad demeanor. I want to see what it’s like to break some ribs, break a jaw with one punch.” – Kimbo Slice

Shit, more power to him. I always wondered why he decided to enter MMA in the first place, coming from backyard street fights that had very restrictive boxing-like rules. Even during interviews he seemed really frustrated of not being able to “bang” the way he wanted to because fools want to take it to the ground. “I just want to land these” he would say while holding up his fists with deformed knuckles. Well, now you can land “those” as much as you want fool. Sadly his problem is that he’s too old to make any type of waves or start a new career in any sport.

Still, I have this conflicting feeling because I don’t want to knock him too much and I shouldn’t. He really did the best he could in MMA but it was too much to handle at the level he started off at. Now if they feed him some cans in boxing then he can create a buzz, that of a scary looking dude that knocks fuckers out. It’s been a while since we’ve had that. Sadly one thing that bothers me is that he’s once again involved with Gary Shaw, the incompetent fuck that ran the circus that was Elite XC.

Rock Band of the Future

By Ricardo | August 26, 2010

Wouldn’t it be sick as fuck if videogames, music games specifically, were like this in the future? Holographic images, I’d like to see this happen in the next 10 years.

UFC 118 – Randy Couture’s Reason

By Ricardo | August 26, 2010

Randy Couture explains his reasoning coming into this fight. He has a good point, Dana likely picked him because he’s a more cerebral fighter and will not fall into the trappings of someone else’s game. Randy does seem to be the one fighter that could basically guarantee Toney will eat his words at the end of the night.

I like how Randy says he wants to choke him out, that’s like the ultimate welcome to MMA. To me the ultimate welcomings are ground and pound, get choked out, or some other type of submission. All of these things are foreign to the sport of boxing but very real threats to any fighter in MMA.

As far as training goes, I really doubt Toney will learn much that can help him against Couture. There is the knowledge of how to get off the ground and then there is the reality of one of the best MMA fighters being on top of you trying to smother the last drop of energy out of you. Ultimately I think that Randy has trained harder and more realisticallly to how the fight will go down. He’s brought in boxers to try and mimic Toney’s style while from what I’ve seen Toney has just brought in a BJJ expert to try and teach him the basics. Because all of this is new to him, likely it’s all going to go out the window once he starts throwing a few punches and thinks he can really knock Randy out. This really will be Randy’s night to submit this fool and show off some BJJ.

“I’m a mixed martial artists and I apply boxing in my fighting style” – Randy Couture

Sickest quote out of this whole pre-fight talk, from both sides.
